I RECORDED THIS LEADERSHIP VIDEO LAST WEEK AND IT FELT SO DAMN FAMILIAR.
YOU SEE, WHEN SOMETHING DOESN’T FEEL QUITE RIGHT AT WORK, OUR REFLEX IS OFTEN TO PUSH IT AWAY. IF WE DO IT OFTEN ENOUGH, WE BEGIN TO EMBODY THE FEELING AND WE FIND OURSELVES STUCK.
In this 3-minute video, I share ideas on what you can do when something isn’t quite right at work and you’re feeling a little “stuck.”
These feelings — apathy, boredom, frustration or a physical pang in your gut — are often unwelcome. Our instinct may be to push them away, because we just don’t like them. Yet, these emotions are rich in information and can hold the secret to unlocking our personal and professional growth. As time passes, if these “alerts” are ignored, we may begin to embody these feelings as they shape our affect and our behavior.
As a career & leadership coach, many of my clients experience these kinds of moments and recognize something is holding them back from reaching their full potential. They all know something isn’t quite right: what it is, however, not so much. They all know they want some form of personal change. Maybe it’s their leadership effectiveness. Or even the nature of the work they’re doing. They can just feel it. But somewhere between that feeling and the actions needed to achieve their desired transformation, the process breaks down.
As always, please reach out if I can support your or your organization’s leadership or career growth and development.
